Learn who qualifies for the Canada Disability Benefit $150 supplement, when it took effect, whether you need to apply, and what to do if your payment is missing.
Updated official information: 2026-09-10

The federal government has created a one-time $150 supplemental payment for eligible Canada Disability Benefit recipients. The change took legal effect on September 1, 2026, and the payment is intended to help offset some of the costs associated with obtaining the Disability Tax Credit, or DTC.
This isn’t a new monthly benefit. It’s a separate lump-sum amount connected to an approved DTC certificate that gives someone an entitlement to the Canada Disability Benefit.
There’s also no separate application for the supplement. If you qualify, Service Canada is expected to determine eligibility from its existing Canada Disability Benefit and DTC records.

The key rule is broader than simply asking whether you’re receiving the Canada Disability Benefit today. A person may qualify for the supplement if they received a Canada Disability Benefit payment before September 1, 2026, even if payments have since stopped.
That includes someone who received only one CDB payment in the past, such as a payment made in July 2025. The government says eligibility can continue for past recipients because the supplemental payment is tied to an approved DTC certificate that gave rise to CDB entitlement.
For the underlying Canada Disability Benefit, applicants generally must:
The $150 supplement is not a replacement for those requirements. It applies to people whose approved DTC certification or re-certification created eligibility for a monthly Canada Disability Benefit payment. A person receiving a very small CDB amount may still qualify; the government specifically includes people whose benefit is $20 or less per month and is paid as a lump sum for the payment period.
Check Canada Disability Benefit eligibility requirements
The supplemental amount is fixed at $150. It is paid as a lump sum rather than being added to each monthly CDB payment.
The rules also say a person may be eligible for $150 for each approved DTC certificate that entitles them to a monthly CDB payment. That means the number of qualifying certificates matters. The payment shouldn’t be confused with the regular CDB amount, which is income-tested and can change depending on family income, marital status, and working income.
| Payment feature | What the official rules say |
|---|---|
| Amount | $150 per qualifying approved DTC certificate |
| Payment type | One-time lump-sum supplemental payment |
| Separate application | No separate application is required |
| Connection to CDB | The DTC certificate must give rise to an entitlement to a monthly CDB payment |
| Past recipients | People who received a CDB payment before September 1, 2026 may still qualify |
As of September 7, 2026, the government has confirmed the amount, eligibility rules, and September 1 effective date, but it has not provided a separate universal deposit date for the supplemental payment on the main program pages.
The regular Canada Disability Benefit payment calendar lists September 17, 2026, as a scheduled CDB payment date. However, that date should not automatically be treated as the confirmed delivery date for the $150 supplement. Supplemental payments may be administered separately, and the official information currently does not promise that every eligible recipient will see the extra amount on September 17.
Government benefit payments can also take several business days to appear, especially when they are issued by cheque rather than direct deposit. If you’re waiting for the supplement, keep your banking and mailing details current and watch for an official payment notice rather than relying on social media posts or messages asking for personal information.

No. Someone who already received a qualifying Canada Disability Benefit payment does not need to file a new application just to request the $150 supplement.
That said, people who believe they qualify for the Canada Disability Benefit but have never applied still need to apply for the underlying benefit. The supplement is not a stand-alone payment for everyone with a disability or everyone who has a DTC certificate. The DTC certification must be connected to CDB entitlement.
All eligible individuals can apply for the Canada Disability Benefit online, by phone, in person at a Service Canada office, or using a printed form. For an online application, applicants may need their Social Insurance Number, legal status in Canada, mailing address, income information, and direct-deposit details. A Service Canada invitation letter, when available, includes a unique six-digit application code.
Apply through the official Canada Disability Benefit application page
Service Canada reviews the application and sends an eligibility decision. The government says applicants should generally expect a decision letter within 28 calendar days, while applications submitted by legal representatives may take up to 49 calendar days.
If the application is approved, the first regular CDB payment is normally issued on the third Thursday of the month after approval, with applicable back payments included. The regular benefit may be retroactive for up to 24 months from the date Service Canada receives the application, but not for periods before the program’s first month of eligibility in June 2025.
If you disagree with an eligibility decision or believe the payment amount is wrong, you can request reconsideration. The request generally must be submitted within 180 days of the date on the decision letter.

The Canada Disability Benefit is a federal Canadian program administered through Service Canada. The $150 supplement does not apply to U.S. Social Security Disability Insurance, Supplemental Security Income, Veterans Affairs benefits, or state disability programs.
The Disability Tax Credit is an important requirement, but the $150 supplement is tied to CDB entitlement. A person may have a DTC certificate and still need to meet the CDB’s age, residency, tax-filing, income, and status requirements.
Receiving a CDB payment before September 1, 2026 can preserve eligibility for the supplemental amount, even if payments later stopped. It does not necessarily mean the person remains eligible for ongoing monthly CDB payments. Current eligibility can change if income, tax-filing, residency, age, or other program circumstances change.
Service Canada should not require you to pay a fee to release the $150 supplement. Be cautious about calls, emails, or text messages asking for a Social Insurance Number, banking password, gift card, or immediate payment. Use the official Canada Disability Benefit pages or the published Service Canada phone number if you need to confirm a case.
Contact Service Canada about the Canada Disability Benefit
If you received the Canada Disability Benefit before September 1, 2026, you generally do not need to apply for the $150 supplement. Confirm that your direct-deposit and mailing information are current, review official payment updates, and allow time for the government to publish further delivery details.

A. Not necessarily. The certificate must be connected to an entitlement to a monthly Canada Disability Benefit payment. A DTC certificate by itself does not automatically create eligibility for the supplement.
A. You may still qualify. The federal government says a person who received a CDB payment before September 1, 2026 can remain eligible for the supplemental amount even if they are no longer receiving monthly payments.
A. No. It is a fixed lump-sum payment, separate from the regular monthly Canada Disability Benefit.
