| • For July 2026 to June 2027, the maximum CCB is $8,157 per year for each eligible child under 6 and $6,883 per year for each eligible child age 6 to 17. • Remaining 2026 payment dates are August 20, September 18, October 20, November 20 and December 11. • CCB payments are recalculated every July using the previous year’s tax information, so 2026-2027 payments are based on 2025 adjusted family net income. |
The Canada Child Benefit runs on a July-to-June payment cycle. That means the payment you received in July 2026 started the 2026-2027 benefit year and was recalculated using information from your 2025 tax return. This is why some families see a different deposit in July even though nothing changed that month.
The amount depends on the number of eligible children, their ages, adjusted family net income and certain disability-related eligibility. Changes in marital status or custody can also affect later payments after CRA updates the household information.

For the July 2026 to June 2027 period, the CRA lists a maximum of $8,157 per year, or $679.75 per month, for each eligible child under age 6. For children age 6 through 17, the maximum is $6,883 per year, or about $573.58 per month.
Those are maximums, not universal payments. The benefit begins to decrease above the published adjusted-family-net-income thresholds. The CRA’s “How much you can get” page includes the current thresholds and examples, and its benefits calculator is more useful than applying a single percentage from an old article.

After the July 20 payment, the CRA lists August 20, September 18, October 20, November 20 and December 11 as the remaining 2026 payment dates. September and December fall on earlier dates than the 20th, so it is worth checking the official calendar rather than assuming every deposit arrives on the same day of the month.
If you use direct deposit, CRA says scheduled payments are issued on the listed date. A mailed cheque can take longer to arrive, especially during local mail disruptions.
A higher 2025 adjusted family net income can reduce the new July 2026 amount even though the maximum benefit increased. A lower income can have the opposite effect. A child turning 6 moves from the under-6 rate to the 6-to-17 rate in the applicable month, and a child turning 18 ages out after the final eligible payment.
Changes in your relationship status can also matter because the CCB calculation uses adjusted family net income. Report marriage, common-law status or separation through the CRA process instead of waiting until the next tax return.
Check CRA My Account first. Your personalized benefit information is more useful than a generic maximum table because it reflects the income, children and household status on file. Review the notice of determination or payment details before assuming the payment was calculated incorrectly.
If the information on file is wrong, update the underlying item rather than repeatedly recalculating with the same incorrect assumptions. For a new child, new resident or custody change, follow the specific CCB application or change-of-circumstances instructions on Canada.ca.
